How this Coronavirus Covid-19 affects humans

A Novel Corona virus or Covid-19 is a common virus that commonly affects animals but recently there has been an outbreak of this virus, which has caused disease in humans resembling pneumonia. Most Corona viruses are not dangerous.

However, this Corona Virus also called Covid-19 is far more dangerous because it is spreading very rapidly.  However, the fatality rate of this virus is ranging from 0.1% to 1.0% which is far less than the previous epidemic of SARS or H1N1 where the fatality was over 90%.

Common signs of Corona Virus or Covid-19 infection include:

  • Respiratory symptoms,
  • Fever,
  • Cough,
  • Shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.
In more severe cases, infection can cause
  • Pneumonia,
  • Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome,
  • Kidney failure and
  • even Death.

Keep your hands and fingers away from your eyes nose, and mouth when touching the objects at public places

Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue then throw away the tissue and wash your hands

Cook meat and eggs thoroughly

Get plenty of rest and stay home when sick

Drink fluids and warm liquids.Stay well hydrated

Add vitamin C enriched foods and fruits (oranges, kiwi, strawberries, guava and all citrus fruits) but avoid when you have sore throat

Wear a face Mask in public places

Avoid eating processed and raw or undercooked animal products

Avoid direct, unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals when visiting live markets in affected areas

Avoid close contact with person who are sick

There is no specific treatment / vaccine for corona virus infection. Most people will get better on their own. However, symptomatic treatment can be given for fever, pain and cough.
